Generally,8-bit(byte) data can be stored with the most significant byte of a multi-byte transfer at the higher or the lower address. These two methods are generally called BIG ENDIAN and LITTLE ENDIAN,respectively.In general, BIG ENDIAN refers to byte lane ordering where the most significant byte is stored at the lower address.LITTLE ENDIAN refers to byte lane ordering where the most significant byte is stored at the higher address.The terms BIG ENDIAN and LITTLE ENDIAN for data organization was coined by Danny Cohen of the Information Sciences Institute,and was derived from the book Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift.
