What is the meaning of prodigy? It means children or youths with exceptional talents. We can often come across with these gifted guys in our real life. They usually are good at physics, math and so on much better than their counterparts of their age. They may do some differential coefficient problems or understand Newton's theories; they may graduate from university in their teens while their counterworkers are struggling in their elementary school; they may design great software that can bring them much money while their counterpart don't know computer at all.

So here comes the problems. Should these prodigies be educated as their regular conterparts? Many educators advocate placing prodigies in regular classroom with students of diverse ability levels, an educational method knows as inclusion. However, considerable evidence suggests that regular classroom teachers do not receive the training and support to appropriately modify the curriculums to meet the needs of gifted students. This is not good for prodigies. I think the prodigies must be trained by special teachers who can let them have much better progress.

Some prodigies gain their early entrance to kindergarten, skip grades, entern college earlier then usual, or take specific course with older children. There are some colleges sush as USTC (University of Science and Technology of China) that offer early entrance for gifted sutdents in China. They offer a special program only for these prodigies, they often have special teachers and metors, have special dorms and other special convenient environment. There are so many educators that argue against the universities' prodigies program, however the universities have there good reasons. They believe that gifted students require special education service because their learning needs differ significantly form those of the general population. They learn more rapidly and are also able to transform existing knowledge into new and useful forms, and to create new knowledge recongnized for its originality, complexity, and elegance. The prodigy program may enhance these abilities. In addition, under the prodigy program the universities have had great success, they have many successful students graduated from this program. Some famous scientist suan as Zhang Yaqin who is the Global Vice President of Microsoft and Zhuang Xiaowei who is the only Chinese that received the MacArthur Talent Awards, get many benefits from the USTC's prodigy program.

But on the other side, someone said, there also many things wrong with the prodigy program. These people think that gifted children may have a less mentality age so that they may can't stand the pressure of university and may do something wrong even some guily. They have their evidences: for example, the first student of the USTC's prodigy program Ning Bo has just become a monk because he can't go smoothly with his life though he has gifted intelligence. But I want to say, the problems like that don't only belong to the prodigies, people of every intelligent level may break down in their lives. There are benefits and disadvantages in the same time, but I think that the benefits are more important factors.

"Teach students in accordance of their aptitude." Said by the famous Chinese philosopher Confucius. I agree with him and support the universities' prodigy program.
